Cathy Lasser is vice president of Industry Solutions and Emerging Business for the IBM Research division. She is responsible for connecting research with all industries to focus innovation on the application of technology to real-world problems. Her mission is to create a tight linkage between the research community and the client facing teams, ensuring we provide the deep thought leadership and assets to IBM’s solution portfolio. She is also the executive sponsor for the Women in Technology for the division.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Lasser was vice president of Global Productivity and Employee IT advocate in the CIO organization. Her focus was on improving and expanding the IT services, support and function to IBM employees globally. She provided a single point of contact for managing contracts, operations and measurements with service providers such as those with the IBM Global Account, AT&T and others around the world.
Ms. Lasser began her career with IBM in 1978 as a programmer supporting Test Engineering in Endicott, New York. Within a year, she moved to the New York tri-state area where she has held various technical and leadership positions including: manager and creator of the information center and advanced technology development departments for IBM Credit Corporation; development manager for corporate common financial systems; IT manager in the PC company; executive assistant to the Senior vice president of Research; CIO and director of Information Technology for the IBM Research division and Vice President of B2B Initiatives in the IBM CIO’s office.
In addition to her IBM responsibilities, Ms. Lasser's activities have included: ten years on the Board of Education, Brookfield, Connecticut School District and Chair, curriculum committee; member of National Science Foundation Business and Operations Committee; National Academy of Engineering committee on diversity in the technical work force; Smith College, Advisory Board for school of engineering; University of Vermont, Advisory Board on the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences; and Arizona State University, Industry Advisory Council, School of Computing and Informatics.
Ms. Lasser holds a B.S. in mathematics/computer science from SUNY Binghamton and an M.B.A. in finance from Iona College.
