The severity of the sales and production downturn of 2008-2009 was historic. The traditional structure and size of the North American auto industry is forever changed as a result. Uncertainty regarding the eventual shakeup in vehicle sourcing, market shares, sales volumes and product types has never been higher. This session will bring together a special panel of experts and “players” from OEMs, suppliers, private equity, consulting firms, and the government to forecast the North American industry of 2015. Who will remain standing? How competitive will the market be? How profitable will OEMs and suppliers be? And, what will be the role of government in ownership and vehicle mandates that define the industry’s fortunes? This level of uncertainly must be reduced if the North American industry is to attain the capital it needs to survive as an independent sector of the North American economy. The panel will highlight not only future obstacles and danger points but also significant opportunities for companies and investors in the second decade of the 21st century.
